A Shared Server or a Dedicated Server?
After one of my recent mailings of "MOE", I discovered that
AOL had blocked the mailing. After a few inquiries, I learned
that my ISP address could not be "whitelisted" because I
mail from a "shared" server - one used by multiple clients.
I was told that "you can't really whitelist a shared server
effectively. It's pointless. A few spam complaints, accidental
or otherwise, means no more whitelist. Whitelisting is only
really effective on a dedicated server and then you can still
have the same problems - especially with AOL."
The solution, weak at best, is something you should know:
"You should be asking AOL, Yahoo and Hotmail customers
to provide a different email address as it's likely they may
not receive their mail (ezine). You should also be instructing
your customers to whitelist you in their ISP and email
program which is the most effective form of whitelisting."
